Obituary for Mario Nicolo

Mario   Nicolo
The kind, generous and outgoing man, affectionately known as “the mayor of Hicks Street”, Mario Nicolo, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at Penn Hospice at Rittenhouse, 1 day after he turned 94 years of age.

Born in Delaware Township New Jersey, now known as Cherry Hill Township, Mario was raised in South Jersey.

An honored member of “The Greatest Generation”, Mario heard the call of duty and enlisted in the United States Army and served honorably during World War 2, during which he was taken prisoner by the Germans. He was discharged as a sergeant on January 9, 1946.

Prior to retirement, Mario worked with the Reading turned Conrail Rail Road Companies for many years as an engineer. He also was had skills to work with concrete and masonry.

He will be lovingly remembered of the Patriarch of the Nicolo family and will be greatly missed by all those who were fortunate enough to know him.

He is the beloved husband of the late Rita (nee Ragano); devoted father of Cindy “Stella” Inverso; loving grandfather of Richard (Cassy) and Krista; Great grandfather of Jada, Nicholas and Joseph, dear brother of James “Jimmy” Nicolo (the late Marie); also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Sunday 7-9 PM and Monday 8:30-9:15 AM in the Vincent Gangemi Funeral Home, 2232-40 S. Broad St. (At Wolf). Funeral Mass Monday 10 AM in St. Monica Church, 17th & Ritner Sts.

Entombment and Military Honors at New Saint Mary’s Cemetery Chapel Mausoleum, Bellmawr, NJ.
