Obituary for Richard "Richie" Hinkie

Richard Dominic Hinkie

Richie passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 12th, 2018 in Pennsylvania Hospital with his family by his side. He was 37 years of age.

Richie was a presence. His killer smile, kind eyes and special way with words charmed everyone in his path. Richie’s love of people and his innate sense of empathy endeared him to many and he made friends quickly and effortlessly.

He was the type of guy who would help anyone, but the chains that bound him were stronger than anything he could do on his own. He courageously fought the battle of drug addiction for years, and truly sought God's help during the struggle.

Richie believed strongly in second chances, maybe because he craved another chance for himself and other addicts. This amazing man should be remembered for this and not his mistakes. Richie and his family believed that hiding his true story would help no one. That, if his story of his life living with the disease of addiction could help just one addict push even harder for another day of sobriety, encourage an active user to choose recovery, or shine a light on this horrible epidemic, then it would be worth coming out of the shadows.

Richie is the beloved and adored son of Nancy Hinkie (Vincent Criniti); loving nephew of Robert Fanelli and Diane Davidson; dear God Son of Lisa Davis; special grandson of the late Catherine Murphy; also survived by many cousins and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Wednesday 7-9 PM and Thursday 8:30-9:15 AM in the Vincent Gangemi Funeral Home, Inc., 2232-40 S. Broad Street (at Wolf Street), Philadelphia, PA.
Funeral Mass Thursday 10 AM in the Church of the Epiphany of our Lord Church, 11th & Jackson Streets, Philadelphia, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a ministry which provides a sober living environment for those in recovery. Richie lived in one of their original houses on his journey and his family would be very grateful for your support: Prodigal House, Inc., PO Box 655, Sewell, NJ 08080.
