my life with my Daddy

i grew up very proud of my Father because he knew how to do anything , fix anything and everything , he had so many skills, Wood Graining,  Painting , carpentry , auto mechanics , motorcycle riding fixing, plumbing ,electrical , masonry, you name it .  i remember very well (1966 or 67) when my Daddy taught me how to ride a bicycle , i had gotten a new bike from my God Father Jake who owned the bicycle store in the city (thank you daddy every kid would love to have a godfather with a bicycle store , rite !. ) well there he was running up and down the street holding me up on my little bike with balloon tires (Loved that bike!) no training wheels , "Peddle Peddle go ahead" and as i went faster and faster a smile appeared on my face as i knew i was in good hands and my Daddy has my back (as he always did) , when without me realizing it , he had let go of the bike and me ,BUT was rite there at my side , then i looked at him and i realized that i was doing it , my smiles grew larger and larger , he stayed with me still , as i peddled up and down the street , finally he sat back on the step and watched proudly <3 . Once on a bike he couldnt get me off , over the years he brought me home many bicycles from Jake. then in about 1970 he got us minibikes . Christmas's at our house was the best , soooo many toys n stuff , he and Mom really took care of us 5 kids . About that time he built a huge addition on the house and a new bedroom for me and bro rich, i loved watching him work most days with Uncle Benny there helping <3 . well about then i took an interest in helping and he put me to work (Daddy was very good at putting people to work !) so he taught me to hammer nails in my new bedroom floor etc . in 1974 he took me on my first paying paint job at Gangemi Funeral Home painting the large railing fence with 5 guys , he taught me how to hold a brush with paint on it and squeez money out of the end of it and for that i am eternally grateful for i would not have a life otherwise .  As a kid i was HUGELY proud of my Daddy for being a Volunteer Firefighter in town , always busy always working on something , but he dropped and ran fast everytime that fire whistle blew in town , i remember being soo worried when he was consumed with smoke in a bad building fire and he got smoke inhalation and was in the hospital a week.  he always took me to the firehouse in the 60;s where they let me pull the winning 50/50 ticket out the tumbler.   i seem to remember a little todo about it cause i was selling the 50/50's too for Daddy and the fire co. they competed to see who could sell more and daddy always sold tons.  thats why i became a Firefighter as well ( thank you Daddy) .   Daddy was always big on Vacations with us , i remember the big ol.batman style black cadillac down AC broke down with all us kids there , at nite , no auto parts stores , we slept in the car that night , it was fun!. then he took us to Florida in 1975 where he almost frantically drowned and pulling mom down until i shoved the raft into him until he grabbed it , cause ,,,,, i needed my Daddy . Every summer i worked with my Daddy learning growing . He bought me my first big (bigger) motorcycle , a Bridgestone 90 real pretty candy red retro 60s streeter, loved it .  In high school i was sooo proud of my Daddy , came to all my wrestling matches with his super 8 movie camera capturing those memories for us. He bought me my first car a 1970 impala <3 . In the 80's i worked with him on and off between other jobs i had which he got me a few , such as Ferraro Cadillac after we did a remodeling job there,  learning more skills from him.  And i always was astounded at his Wood Graining and watched closely as he handed me the brush to practice on his door jobs as he instructed along the way , by 1990 when my daughter was born i knew how to do the centuries old process of door graining , working with him still . I am sorry i disappointed my parents both with some trouble i had and the entire time they stood by me like glue <3 for that i am eternally grateful.  I believe i made him proud when in december 99 i joined the Essington fire Company to be his 2nd generation fireman and in 2001 after 911 they awarded me Fireman of the Year . At that time i had bought my Hud home and was remodellig that to live in , My Daddy came over ALOT and helped me such as refinishing my hardwood floors , he guided me thru as i never did it.  Also when i built my 15x22 custom deck he gave me the engineering and design mentally to be able to plan that deck to the t in my head before i even bought the wood , i couldnt have done that without my daddy's raising of me <3 . Still working with Daddy until i began to get more work on my own and i always needed him for something as we transitioned between him working less and me working more , he worked here and there pretty much as a bull he was until he was about 75 ( he started painting with his Popi at age 9! )   i was extremely proud of my Daddy when the fire compay awarded Daddy his 50 year membership in the company and he recieved a nice gold watch . Shortly after, having to have his 5 way bypass surgery , again i was sooo worried about my Daddy. he pulled thru well , but it took alot outta him and he wasnt working any more or even all the projects he always did around the house , became more sedentary and i encouraged him strongly to keep busy , walk , excersise abit , peddle the still bike on the patio , he did this . I am very grateful for Daddy teaching me frugality , he saved EVerything and i learned not to save all but just the worthy .  i could go on and on about how much i owe my Daddy for what he taught me about life . he taught me to stand up for myself and not take no shet at the same time as being humble and talk nice but carry a big stick . I LOVE YOU DADDY , RIP  with alll your brothers and sisters and granMomi and granPopi .
