Obituary for Ember Kay Jensen

Ember Kay Jensen, 24, of Bloomington, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly on March 23, 2022 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Ember was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Ember was a Senior at Indiana University majoring in Social and Historical Sciences with a minor in Gender Studies. They were passionate activists for social justice and a kind soul to all. Ember enjoyed hiking, rock climbing, and was a talented artist. They also enjoyed photography and music.
Prior to attending Indiana University, Ember completed a year of service in Americorp where she provided service to the community in the areas of education, the environment, public safety, and health. Specifically, they taught English to children in non-English speaking schools, built trails in national parks and worked in multiple food bank operations across the nation.
Ember graduated from Homestead High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where they were both a scholar and an athlete. They graduated with academic honors and played both volleyball and lacrosse. They enjoyed working at the Fort Wayne YMCA as a rock climbing instructor.

Ember grew up in Fort Wayne, where they played multiple competitive travel sports and loved spending time with their parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Ember’s message to the world was “May you know love, peace, joy, and happiness.”

They are survived by parents, Shelly and Tracy Ryman and Michael and Leah Jensen, and Grandmother Sherry Andes.
They are also survived by siblings Katelyn (Trevor) Cahill, Mackenzie Jensen (Austin Smith), Kerrigan Jensen, Kellan Jensen, and step siblings Austin (Kendra) Ryman, Shelby (Nathanael) Collett, and Kaylee Ryman. They are also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

There will be a small private service for immediate family members. A celebration of Ember's life will be forthcoming in the near future.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations could be made to Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard in Bloomington, IN. Ember was an active member of the Mother Hubbard Community. Mother Hubbard’s mission is to increase access to healthy food in ways that cultivate dignity, self-sufficiency, and community.
